History

• In 1979, Denmark built two 630 kW wind turbines (DWEA, 2001).

• Also in 1979, the United States began a major research project on wind power (DWEA, 2001).

• In 1980, the United States passed the Wind Energy Act, an eight-year, $900 million program to develop wind power systems (DWEA, 2001).
