Geology
Yucca Mountain is a 4,921 to 6,332 feet high volcanic ridge (EPA, 2000).
Located on federal land controlled by the Department of Energy, US Air Force, and the Bureau of Land Management (EPA, 2000).
Geologic formations beneath Yucca Mountain are made of material called “volcanic tuff,” formed from volcanic eruptions between 8 & 16 million years ago (State of Nevada, 1997).
