• Henri Becquerel discovered photovoltaics in 1839 (Bond, 2000)

• Bell Laboratory scientist were the first to use silicon in 1954 (Fies, 2001).

• The oil crises of the 1970’s provided the biggest boost for PV technologies (Fies, 2001).
