Worldwide
Global wind power capacity has grown at an annual average rate of 22.6 percent between 1990 and 1998 (EPA, 2001).
In 2000 the international wind power industry installed more than 3,500 megawatts (MW) of new wind energy generating capacity, bringing total installed capacity close to 17,000 MW, enough to produce 34 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year (AWEA, 2001 a).
