Emissions
The 3 billion kilowatt-hours produced each year by California’s wind turbines displace 2.1 million tons of CO2 that would otherwise be emitted by fossil fuel power plants (EPA, 2001).
Every 1,000 kWh of electricity generated by wind turbines offsets 1,100 to 2,200 pounds of carbon dioxide, depending on the type of fossil fuel used (EPA, 2001).
