Potential Presence of Energy and Mineral Resources
Agency for Nuclear Projects researchers have found “indicator” minerals at Yucca Mountain that suggest the presence of gold and silver (Agency for Nuclear Projects, 1997).
Rocks have been found in areas surrounding the site known to be hydrocarbon source rocks, indicating the possible presence of oil or natural gas. To date no deep wells have been drilled so the potential remains unknown (State of Nevada, 1997).
Based on these findings the potential for human intrusion and exploration should not and cannot be ruled out.
