- Impressive fuel conversion efficiencies
- Wide range of applications
Notes:
- Efficiencies: If gasoline was used as a hydrogen source, a car could get 80 mpg instead of the conventional 40 mpg.
- The best cells are about twice as efficient as steam and internal combustion engines. Fuel cells can reach an efficiency of 65 to 80%, compared to 35% for a typical combustion engine.
- Fuel cell powered buses run with 50% higher fuel economy, 10-20 decibels less noise, 99% lower emissions, Have CO, N, & S, compounds in levels below stringent standards than typical diesel powered buses.
- Wide range applications: vehicles, homes, computer, businesses, cell phones, laptops, power plants
- Long lifetimes: the life span of a commercial stack must exceed 5 sometimes 10 years to offset initial capital expense.
- Low maintenance: Fuel cells suffer material degradation, but they have no moving parts so they don’t break down as frequently.
