An Alkaline Home Fuel Cell Unit

The fuel cell uses gaseous hydrogen fuel and oxygen from the air to produce 4 kW of electrical power. Approximately same amount of power is available as byproduct heat. With dimensions of 120 x 140 x 75 cm (48 x 56 x 30 inches) this device is the precursor of the fuel cell co-generation units to provide electricity and heat in the homes of future. Such an appliance, installed in the basement, will generate the electricity your home needs, plus low grade heat suitable for home heating. In this mode, close to 100 % of the energy content of the fuel is used in your home. By contrast, in conventional power generation by electric utilities, upward of 60 % of total energy is lost by the time the electricity is delivered to you.
