Despite the challenges of designing and integrating lightweight hydrogen storage tanks into vehicles and of setting up an appropriate infrastructure, the implementation of fuel cell technology had the potential to be a much cleaner, more efficient, and more cost effective form of energy than fossil fuels. The environmental and social benefits, such as a decrease in health problems due to air pollution, are worth the investment of time and money that should be put into fuel cell research today.
