Dear <Name of Recipient>,

I am writing this letter in regard to Congress' upcoming vote on Clean Air Standards. In the past thirty years, the United States has made advances by increasing air standards and reducing emissions of harmful pollutants by means of the Clean Air Act. This act protects the environment and the air we breathe. Despite moderate standards, 30,000 people are still dying every year from asthma attacks and other respiratory diseases, and harmful pollutants continue to contaminate our environment (Save The, 2002).

The proposed Lieberman-Jeffords Clean Power Act will drastically increase emission standards while the proposed Clear Skies Act of the Bush Administration will relax standards of the existing Clean Air Act (Wenzler, 2002). The Clean Air Act and other proposed acts such as the Lieberman-Jeffords Clean Power Act have strict codes about of reduction of specific pollutants such as SO2, NOX, and CO2 in future years.

Although the Clear Skies Act sounds good, it will reverse many standards of emissions and our air pollution problem will worsen. We need to move forward, increasing standards of air pollution, instead of moving backward. I support the Lieberman-Jeffords Clean Power Act, or existing programs of the Clean Air Act. We can be the clean air leaders of the industrial world. Please respond with your feelings on this issue.

Sincerely,

<Your Name>
