PV Benefits:
Enough sunlight reaches the earth’s surface every year to produce about 1,000 times the amount of energy produced by burning fossil fuels mined and extracted during the same time period (EPA, 2001).
There is no need to develop land areas to produce power with PV cells. They can be added to existing development or incorporated into new development (Bond, 2000).
The average PV system, on an average size home will prevent 34 tons of greenhouse gas emissions in its lifetime (Bond, 2000).
For each one-kilowatt PV system installed 150 pounds of coal will not be mined, and 300 pounds of CO2 will not be released into the atmosphere (Stone, 2001).
