This semester we will continue with the theme of guest presenters and delve into Excel and PowerPoint; additional concepts in Word will be explored.

An excerpt by Ellen Gilchrist's book entitled Falling Through Space (1987) was distributed; the content could help build a sense of importance and meaning for your work and your efforts.
JSC Scholarships are just around the corner. Prepare your letters and applications now.
German minister Annette Schavan quits over plagiarism.
Worked with Excel: the basics, graphing, parsing data, importing graphs into Word.
Worked with Excel: use of dates when plotting graphs.
Worked with Excel: trigonometric functions and scroll bars.
Create a spreadsheet that uses a scroll bar to calculate the results of the basic trigonometric functions (sin, cos and tan) from 0-90°.
Use 0.5° increments for the small step and 10° increments for the large step.
Use an appropriate number of significant figures.
The spreadsheet should be clear, crisp, informative, obvious and easy to use.
Submit an electronic version to me with the following filename: lastnameTrigFunctions.xls (insert your lastname); be sure to have a properly written email.
Worked with i) parsing data to be used with Excel, and ii) dimensional analysis.
Introduction to Illustrator.
Send a proper email with an attached Illustrator file. The file should be 36"x44" in dimensions; minimum font size is 36 points (except figure captions and references could be 24 point); title should be 144 point.
Show me what you can do with little training in Illustrator...
Align the margins of the objects.
Use two or three columns (some objects can cross borders).
Use subheadings.
Be sure that the topics have segues.
Refer the reader to the figures refer to Figure 1 before Figure 2.
Reference all figures using the following format see the referencing guidelines for additional suggestions: Figure 1. Title of figure (Author, Year).
Complete the reference list and use a, b, or c after the year if you cite a number of papers by an author during the same year.
Be sure the thesis statement is clear and the summary is supported by the content of the poster.
Creatively use the white space.
Adjust for orphans and widows.
Wheres the data?
Do not use the word you.
Use informative, high resolution figures, not pretty pictures or goofy images.
Do not end sentences in prepositions.
Work with Illustrator.
Spring Break be careful.
Work with Illustrator. Your posters must be printed by Wednesday.
