The Bush administration has prepared a revision to the National Forest Management Act (1976) that will hinder the past two decades of environmental protection
in the national forests. Without environmental impact studies local land managers will not have any sufficient scientific evidence to prove or refute the decisions of forestry
officials. This plan will also permit mining and drilling without having to conduct any scientific environmental impact studies. The environmental impact studies are a key
factor in determining whether or not an operation will be approved. If they are eliminated from the process, what will stop environmentally harmful projects from occurring?
It will not be the public, because the Bush administration is attempting to abolish public involvement in the decision making process as well as the environmental impact
studies.
