The Georges Bank, located off the coast of New England, was once one of the most productive world fisheries.  Its geographic location and varied geological composition make it both an excellent spawning ground for economically valuable fish and a safe haven for juvenile fish.   Unfortunately these fisheries are no longer what they used to be.  Fish stock numbers have dropped dramatically in all of the commercially valuable species.  Legal action has been taken to restore the fisheries, but some scientists wonder if it is too late.  Research is being done to estimate when, if ever, the fisheries of the Georges Bank will recover and what conditions will help make this possible.
