The Anthropocene Golden Spike: The Age of Humans

Note to all students

NVU President Collins announced that Spring Break will be moved forward to 15–21 March 2020 in order to give students time to make the transition back home, and for faculty to prepare for remote instruction. Remote instruction begins on Monday, 23 March 2020, and will continue through at least Friday, 3 April 2020. At that time, the VSCS will make a determination about returning to campus.

Every faculty member has been asked to determine appropriate ways to deliver instruction to students in their classes. My classes will be offered through Zoom, in conjunction with resources on this web site, and Canvas. If you use a smartphone, then you need to download the Zoom Cloud Meetings app. Zoom also works on laptops, and all that is needed is the appropriate link (see below). Please remember to unmute the microphone when you want to speak (but keep it muted to reduce background noise). You can also turn on or off the camera as you see fit. I will be taking attendance in order to provide NVUJ with information. Please participate in all of your classes over the next few weeks.

You should also download a scanning app for your phone. Consider using Adobe Scan or CamScanner. Adobe Scan uses data to process the images, while CamScanner does not. Scanning apps work much better than taking pictures of one's work.

The Zoom link for this course can be found on Canvas, on the Announcements tab.

Please send me an email if you have any questions about this class, about NVUJ, or anything else that you think is appropriate. I will do whatever I can to make accommodations.
